Growing Up with Christ
Growing up in a Christian family, I often heard about God, but I was not quite certain of my relationship with Him. I knew I loved Him and that He would always be involved in my life. The older I grew, the more I came to know that God wanted to be involved in my life on a very personal level. I began to go to Christian conferences, both in my home city and in other parts of the country, and hear more about God and His purpose. I had heard about God my entire childhood and even had many positive Christian experiences, such as knowing Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, witnessing Christ to others through the preaching of the gospel, reading the Bible, and practicing to have daily fellowship with God, especially through prayer. During my high school years, I began to attend large international conferences and met Christians from many countries, cultures, and backgrounds. This kind of experience opened my eyes to see that what God wants is something larger than just me. He wants to be expressed across the whole earth. This is the practical way in which I began to know the Body of Christ.
I have now been following Christ in an active way for several years. Of course, I know that I have not finished my Christian walk, but I feel that these years under the ministry of Witness Lee have established me in several fundamental Christian principles. I love the Bible. Whatever I hear or read concerning the Christian faith must be completely based on the Bible for me to accept it. Prior to high school, I tended to assume most things I heard or read were true. Beginning in high school and even until now, I have been encouraged and exhorted by other believers to take the Bible as the basis for everything I believe. I have taken this word and followed it. This has strengthened my faith even more. I am also learning more and more that prayer is indispensable for every part of my life. God is my joy and my strength.
